OPERATOR, POLE CHAINSAW SAFETY TRAINING (Operate Pole Saw)
Training Delivery:
Training and assessments conducted by chainsaw guru, Peter Tutt, (Chainsaw / pruning specialist with over 40 years of chainsaw direct industry technical and training experience), holder of Certificate IV Training and Assessment (TAE40116, TAE40110 & TAA40104)
Purpose
Provide participants with the knowledge and skill to safely and effectively operate and maintain a pole saw to correctly prune shrubs and small trees correctly using recommended cutting techniques as per:
- Australian Standard: AS2727-1997 Chainsaws - Guide to safe working practices
- Australian Standard: AS 4373 - 2007 Pruning Amenity Trees
- SafeWork Australia (2016) Guide for Managing Risks in Tree Trimming and Removal Works.
- Arboriculture Australia Minimum Industry Standards: MIS315 (2020) Chainsaw Operation and Tree Falling

Duration
RPL Recognition of Prior Learning: A Plus Training Solutions will recognise the fact if you have had experience operating and performing maintenance on a pole saw, or other relevant industry experience. Participants will still need to do the full assessment, but may be precluded from areas of the training where you are already operating within the requirements of the guidelines.
- 1/2 - 1 day depending on prior experience.
- Some participants, due to a variety of factors, may require more time to develop the knowledge & skills required to demonstrate competency.
Course Fees:
The courses will be run in groups of 6 to 10 participants at a cost of:
$275.00 (GST Free) per person:
Individuals or smaller groups should contact us, as we may be able to
fit you into a larger group. Otherwise fees will be negotiated.
A
surcharge may apply for work on weekends or public holidays

Assessment
Supervised written and/or verbal and practical assessment.
Equipment
Participants will need to wear their own protective boots and hi-vis shirt.
All other required equipment and training notes are provided for participant's
use.
In order to increase training relevance and operator comfort,
trainees are encouraged to use any or all their own equipment if practicable.
This includes:
- Pole saw, tools, fuel and oil
- Safety equipment
- - Hard hat
- - Approved eye protection
- - Hearing protection (ear plugs or ear muffs)
- - Safety boots and over-socks (recommended)
- - Cut resistant trousers or chaps
- - Work gloves (optional)
- - Sunscreen
- - High visibility clothing
Demonstration of Competence:
From experience, we find that people have different levels of ability and experience when it comes to handling machinery. If a person, due to a lack of experience, requires more time to develop their skills, a second day of practical application may be needed to increase their skills up to a competent level.
Personal Requirements:
Depending on location and duration of the training, and availability of take away food outlets, it is advisable on full day courses for trainees to bring a packed lunch and plenty of drinking water to each training day.
